1st TV Zimbabwe was a Pop-Up television station set-up in record time just before presidential elections in 2013. The brief was to provide a platform for Zimbabweans of all political stripes to debate the issues. From studios in Johannesburg, live shows featuring some of Zimbabwe’s best media talent, including Violet Gonda and Temba Hove, were sent by satellite into the millions of homes, from Harare to Bulawayo and all places in between, equipped with free-to-air receivers. 1st TV was the only mass-media service where ruling ZANU-PF members and opposition Movement for Democratic Change supporters could share their views.
